A New Year of Opportunities
The Apostle Paul’s most often used description for the Christian life is to be “in Christ.” And one of the greatest joys of our life in Christ is that we have access to a constant source of new beginnings. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” ( II Cor. 5:17 NKJV). Not only are we given a new life, a new hope, a new heart, a new nature, a new family, a new home . . . but in Christ, we are becoming new. Each year, each moment, is a God ordained opportunity for us to experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit within us. So we are to put the past behind us and press forward to the high calling of Christ. (Phil. 3:12-14) I want to encourage you to embrace this new year as an opportunity to begin again in Christ. The past is gone. You have never been at this place in your life before. Recommit your life to Christ. Give Him all that you are right now. Repent of sin that so easily besets you. Share your faith with those around you. Resolve to follow Him no matter what comes your way in the next 12 months.
The New Testament Challenge
I know of no more practical way for you to start the new year in Christ than committing yourself to reading God’s Word daily. You may have never used a Bible reading plan, or you may have read through the Bible several times. This year, I want you to try something new. I want you to take the New Testament Challenge. In the ten weeks leading up to Easter (January 22 – April 1) I want to challenge you to read 5 key passages a week. On Sundays I’ll be sharing messages that follow along with the readings. In addition, I’ll be covering the key themes of the New Testament. God’s Word will change your life.
It’s an honor to serve as your pastor.
In Christ Alone,
Pastor Jim
