It’s Great to be Home!

I love vacations! We were fortunate to escape the Texas heat this past week and experience the cool mountain air of Colorado. Fishing, hiking, tubing and camping are refreshing and relaxing. But it sure is nice to come home. Camper trailers are nice, but there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed. Going to church on vacation is encouraging, but there is no greater fellowship than right here at Oak View. We love you guys! Maybe the greatest thing about being away is that it helps you appreciate what you have right here at home.

The Parable of the Hikers

One of the most exciting parts of our trip came when about 15 of us from the church decided to hike to the highest cliff above our campsite. We ranged in age from 6 to 50-something. (Brian Hindman beat me by a couple years as the senior member of our group.) Those who had made the hike led out. When someone slipped, another person gave them a hand. When one trailed ended, we found another one. We reached the top of the cliff with great excitement but with an awareness of danger of falling that was all around us. What a view! We could see for miles.

We Need Each Other

It struck me that, like our trek up the mountain, we are all on a spiritual journey. Our goal is to become like Christ and lead others to follow him. But we can’t make it alone. We need each other as guides and encouragers and to help us when we fall. And while there is danger everywhere, if we stick together and follow His instructions, we’ll make it to the top.

Vision 2012

This past spring, we unanimously adopted a bold pathway to connect people to Christ: Vision 2012. August 29 will also be Life-Change Sunday in our a.m. worship services. You’ll hear amazing testimonies of how God is changing lives through our church. Make your plans to be there.
