Worship. Is there any other word that better describes the calling upon our lives as the people of God? Although it is possible for those outside the family of God to be ‘worshipers’ of false gods, possessions, or people, it is impossible to be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ without also being an active, lifestyle worshiper of the one true God. This is a tremendous blessing and gift from God because to worship God is to enter into His presence and to receive the gift of His fellowship in a deeply personal way.
Not only is worship a blessing from God, but it is also a sacred duty. Scripture proclaims that “Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods” (Psalm 96:4). Many of us subconsciously think of worship as something that is optional or that is not an important part of our Christian walk. This is absolutely not true. We were created for the very purpose of glorifying God and enjoying Him through the act of worship, and He is indeed most worthy of our undying worship.
As Oak View Baptist Church endeavors to move closer to the heart of God through His praises, we should always remember that God demands the best we can offer—that the “sacrifice of praise” spoken of in Scripture is indeed a sacrifice (Hebrews 3:15). Therefore, as we prepare to worship God together on Sunday, pray that God will move you to worship Him sacrificially with your heart, soul, mind, and strength as you sing, clap, raise your hands, pray, give, and receive the divine words of God.
